RELINQUISHMENT OF ADELIA WING

Here we are, not quite two years after Rebecca Davis Wing has entered into an indenture with Stephen Wing for her two children, Adelia & Byron Wing. For whatever reason Rebecca reclaims Adelia but she leaves Byron with his Uncle. Maybe Adelia was too much to handle for Stephen and his wife, Olive Rice Wing. Maybe Rebecca thought that she could raise a girl easier than she could a boy. In those times it was a belief that boys needed to be taught certain skills that only men could teach them. We will probably never know what made Rebecca reclaim her only daughter in February of 1856 but as other documents will prove, she changes her mind again.

Wing.
