Matthew Wing
Based on the Wing Family History By Elizabeth Wing Kurfman
Matthew Wing, born April 28, 1788 at Danby, Vermont to Giles Wing and
Mary Jane Cornell. Matthew was the fifth child and fourth son born to Giles
and Mary Jane. On March 25, 1775, Matthew married Hannah/Anna Parr. Hannah,
daughter of Moses Parr and Frances Sweet, date of birth unknown.
About 1822, Matthew moved himself and his family to Trumbull County, Ohio. Eventually he settled Big Beech Woods near Cleveland and reportedly lived there until his death about 1860. (Other sources of the OWL claim that Matthew moved to Illinois around 1840). Matthew Wing and his brother, Joseph Wing would share descendants. Matthew's granddaughter, Alice Wing, daughter of Giles Nelson Wing and Matilda Pettis, would marry Theodore Wing, the son of Stephen Wing and Olive Rice, grandson of Joseph Wing and Amy Pettis. By the same token, if you are in the camp that believes that Colonel Stephen Pettis and Amy Pettis were brother and sister, Alice Wing and Theodore Wing also shared great-grandparents; Stephen Pettis and Amy Button. Matthew Wing and Hannah Parr were the parents of eleven children; 1. Anna Wing 2. William A. Wing 3. Eliza Wing 4. Stephen Wing 5. Albert Wing, married Ina Beatrice Jones and went from Pike County to Oregon (near Portland). Albert and Ina had two sons, Weldon Arthur and Chester Lyle, who married sisters and each had one child; Luella and Thomas. 6. Clarinda Wing 7. Giles Nelson Wing 8. Matthew Wing, killed by a train in Ohio. 9. Francis Wing 10. Sylvia Wing 22. Leroy Wing, still living in Pike County, Illinois in 1870. |
