Notes for CYRUS WING:
The documentation in the Wing Family of America records show that Cyrus and
Mahala had a large family, but only Elijah and William were documented. Lesta
Voght's great-grandfather was Cyrus Fernando Wing. She has his wedding
certificate which shows Cyrus Wing and Mahala Wing as witnesses. The following
is a quote from a letter from Francis Wing, grandson of Cyrus: "My father's
father came from the New England states in the 18th century, his ancestors
running back to the time of the founding of the New England States. I have
record book farther than his parent." Unfortunately no one knows where the
record book is.

Quote from D. F Wing, grandson of Mahala Tuttle: "My father (referring to
Cyrus Fernando) was born in Illinois on the 2nd of January, 1840. His mother
being Scotch descent, his grandmother coming from Scotland in the 17th century."

same regiment as Cyrus Fernando Wing.

Illinois, and died April 08, 1865 in Spanish Fort, Alabama. He married ANN
ELIZA HILL April 22, 1859 in Whiteford, Michigan, daughter of DANIEL HILL
and CATRINA KUMMERER. She was born July 15, 1836 in Ohio, and died Unknown
in Bellevue, Ohio.
Notes for CYRUS FERNANDO WING:
Cyrus Fernando Wing was killed at the end of the Civil War in Alabama. His
diary, photographs and pertinent letters are in the Western Reserve Historical
Society in Cleveland, Ohio. The following paragraph is quoted from a letter
of D.F Wing (Francis), his son:
"My father was born in Illinois on 2nd of January, 1840."

The following is from military records:
Cyrus enlisted in the Ohio Infantry, Co. I, 72nd Regiment on November 15,
1862. He was discharged with a certificate of disability on January 5, 1863.
(Epilepsy). He rejoined in April of 1864 and was killed April 8, 1865.

The 1860 Scott Township census lists along with Cyrus and Ann Eliza, a 3
month old infant named James.

A copy of guardianship record for Francis D. and Ann E. Wing also lists a
Charity J., no Isetta.

Cyrus Fernando Wing died of a "mortal wound in the chest and abdomen by
(unintelligible) shot." His clothing account was $50.79 and he was owed a
bounty of $240.00. The previous facts are taken from his Diability for Discharge
papers signed by his commanding officer. Original letters are in the Western
Reserve Historical Society. Lesta Voght has copies of his army papers.

Excerpt from newspaper (?)...the original at Western Reserve Historical Society:
"There were those found in each regiment willing to lay down their lives
for the common good and the honor of the old brigade. Cyrus Wing, of Co.
I, and J. Stanbury, of Co. G of the 72nd, and Daniel Waldron, of Co. G of
the 9th Ohio, quietly stepped out of the trenches and succeeded in tying
a rope to the sheeprack (chevaux-de-frise). The word was then given to the
boys in the trench to pull away, which was done with a wil. The Johnnies
opened fire at the same instant, Stanbury falling with Wing across him. The
dying cry of poor Wing, "My God, my poor wife!", was heard by his comrades
above the roar of the fusilade. They were pulled into the trench, where Wing
soon expierd. Stanbury eventually recovered from his wounds, and Daniel Waldron
of the 9th got back safe."

The following is a quote from a letter from D. F. Wing (Francis) her son:
"My mother was born in Ohio the 15th day of July, 1836."
After Cyrus died, she married Daniel Rosenberg, but had no further children.
Original letters and photographs are at the Western Reserve Historical Society.
Lesta has her wedding ring and some of her dishes.

There is no information on whether or not Francis married. Lesta has pictures
of him, but no history.

Notes for ISETTA WING:
"Aunt Settie" married and had several children. Her married name is not known,
or where she settled. Lesta has several pictures however of both her and
her children and her husband.

A 3 month old infant named James is listed on the 1860 census...that is the
only mention of him.

1880 in Burgoon, Ohio, son of WILLIAM ALEXANDER MOWRY. He was born February
24, 1858, and died March 18, 1904 in Bellevue, Ohio.
Notes for ANNA ELIZA WING:
Anna Eliza Wing was evidently conceived during the time her father was discharged
in January of 1863 and his re-enlistment in March or April of 1864. Anna
was a midwife and her diaries are at the Western Reserve Historical Society
in Cleveland, Ohio. Lesta Voght has a quilt that Anna made for her Lesta
was born in 1931. Lesta also has her wedding ring. Anna's residence in 1877
was Heidelburg.

CATHERINE RYAN. She was born July 11, 1884 in Cleveland, Ohio, and died 1971
in Norwalk, Ohio.

in Rochester, Indiana, and died March 01, 1951 in Norwalk, Ohio.
