Certificate to Practice Medicine presented to
Dr. Joseph Smith Wing in Utah






It has long been a matter of conjecture about how Joseph Smith Wing earned the title of "Doctor." Some of the more cynical of this group (myself included) believed that he just decided one day that he wanted to be a doctor and so that is what he became. Evidently though, that was not good enough for the Utah state government.

Thanks to Leslie and Lena Larsen who allowed Dale Wing to copy this certificate and who was gracious enough to send me a copy to reproduce here, we now have the answer to that question. It appears that Dr. Joseph Smith Wing was a "non-graduate practioner of Medicine." Many, many thanks to Leslie and Lena Larsen and to Dale Wing I have tried to transcribe the documents below...the "xxx's," and the "???'s," indicate the items I could not transcribe...
