Adelia Wing is made a Ward of the State of Illinois
August 5, 1856

ADELIA WING IS MADE A WARD OF THE STATE Now it is August of 1856 and Amy Wing, grandmother to Adelia Wing is appointed guardianship of Adelia because Adelia has no guardian. This is approximately a month after Rebecca Davis Wing, Adelia's mother, marries for the 2nd time to Jacob T. Cheek. It appears from all of the documents that Byron Wing was allowed to remain with his Uncle Stephen but that Rebecca wavered considerably when it came to Adelia. This document mentions an "estate" that was left to Adelia. At this writing it is unknown who might have left her anything. It may just be "legalesse" for a trust fund that was set up for her. For now it remains a mystery.
