Benjamin Wing, son of Matthew Wing, Grandson of Stephen Wing & Sarah Briggs.

Andrea Wing Gladstone wrote that she noticed I didn't have Benjamin Wing's continued line. Andrea was kind enough to share her line from Stephen Wing & Sarah Briggs through their grandson Benjamin Wing. I am also including what additional information I have about that particular line. My thanks to Andrea for sharing.

Matthew Wing was the seventh child born to Stephen Wing & Sarah Briggs. Matthew was born January 1, 1673/74. Matthew would marry Elizabeth Mott Ricketson and they would have three children:

1. Joseph Wing, born February 20, 1696/97

2. Benjamin Wing, born February 1, 1698/99

3. Abigail Wing, born February 1, 1701/02

Benjamin Wing, (Matthew Wing, Stephen Wing, Rev. John Wing, Matthew Wing), born February 1, 1698/99 at Dartmouth, Bristol Co., Massachusetts.  Benjamin Wing died November 15, 1771 or 1776 at Dartmouth, Bristol Co., Massachusetts.

Benjamin Wing was, like his parents, a member of the Apponnegansett Meeting of Friends. Benjamin lived in Datmouth, Bristol Co., Massachusetts Westport. The house created by Benjamin Wing upon his farm in Westport was standing up to about the year of 1898. Mrs. Sophia Wing Pettey, who had always lived near the old house, wrote in 1903, "As a child I heard that after the house was raised and boarded that on account of war it was left; that the builders went away, where I never learned, and when they returned, trees had grown up to the rafters, probably on the lower side." This abandonment might have occurred during the Revolutionary War when the British were operating in the vicinity of Newport and Dartmouth. There is now standing in the vicinity of the old house a pear tree more than 150 years old and still in bearing condition.

In the stone wall, near the front of the house, is a large flat stone serving as a stile. In it is a deeply cut "B.W.--1771," none other than Benjamin Wing. This may have been his gravestone.

Benjamin was married three times. Benjamin's first wife was Content Tucker who was born January 12, 1694/95 at Dartmouth, the daughter of Abraham Tucker and Hannah Mott. It is not known when Content Tucker Wing died. Benjamin and Content had 5 known children:

1. Elizabeth Wing, born April 6, 1724

2. Sarah Wing, born April 26, 1726

3. Hannah Wing, born 1728

4. Benjamin Wing Jr., born March 25, 1732

5. Abigail Wing, born April 25, 1734

Benjamin Wing Sr. next married Rhoda Rogers on October 19, 1738. Rhoda Rogers was born May 25, 1713 at Marshfield, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts, the daughter of Thomas Rogers and Bethia Ewell. Rhoda Rogers was a descendant of John Rogers, the martyr, who was burned at Smithfield, England on February 4, 1555. Rhoda Rogers Wing died April 21, 1758. Benjamin and Rhoda had six known children:

1. Joseph Wing

2. Thomas Wing, born February 3, 1739/40

3. Rhoda Wing, born October 22, 1741

4. David Wing, January 2, 1743/44

5. Jonathan Wing, born September 10, 1745

6. Prince Wing, born September 27, 1750

Benjamin Wing Sr. would marry one last time to Mary Devol Potter on December 6, 1764. Benjamin was about 65 when he married Mary. They did not have children together.

Thomas Wing, (Benjamin Wing, Matthew Wing, Stephen Wing, Rev. John Wing, Matthew Wing) born February 3, 1739/40 at Dartmouth, Bristol Co., Massachusetts, died in 1823 at Dover, Dutchess, New York at the age of 83. Thomas married Hannah White on January 16, 1762 at Dartmouth. Hannah was born March 28, 1744 at Dartmouth, the daughter of George White and Deborah Shaw.  Hannah died in 1825 at Dover, Dutchess Co., New York at the age of 81.

A family tradition relates that soon after their marriage, Thomas and Hannah made the journey on horseback from Dartmouth to Dover, Dutchess County, N. Y. and there founded their new home. They settled upon a tract of land, the next farm north from the place of Colonel Andrew Morehouse, on the road lying east along the Ten Mile river, a little short of a mile from the present station at Wingdale, N. Y. Here Thomas and his brother Jonathan owned a very large tract of land. Thomas, soon after his settlement in Dover, renounced his Quaker faith and became a staunch Methodist, and one of the original members of that Society at Sharon, Connecticut, just across the eastern line of the State. A church was afterwards organized near where he resided in Dover.

Thomas Wing and Hannah White had eleven known children:

There was also a daughter, Ella Catherine who was adopted. It is believed that Ella was the niece of Mary Sands because Phineas Wing married Mary Sands sister after Mary died.

Charles Benjamin Wing, born 1864 and died 1945 married Anna Marie Paddock. Charles B. Wing graduated from Cornell University in New York about 1886 (where his wife also graduated). By 1890, Charles had nove to Palo Alto, California to be one of the first civil engineering professors at Stanford University. Later Charles would design and oversee the birth of Stanford Stadium. Hiram Wing, Charles Wing's brother, taught dairy science at Cornell University (one of the university's halls is named for Hiram Wing).
