A VISIT TO PINCHER CREEK,
ALBERTA. CANADA

Many thanks to Marian, the daughter of Donald Earl Nash and the granddaughter of Daniel Nash, the great-granddaughter of Jeremiah and Charlotte Nash.

It was so thoughtful of her to send the following pictures and email...if anyone would care to email Marian, her email is...m.l.douglas2@juno.com

I thought that I'd send you the pictures that I took while we were down in Fort Macleod and Pincher Creek. We had a busy time - first we went to Fort MacLeod, to the town office to try and locate Daniel and Ada's graves. We did find Ada's, and we think we found Daniel's, but he had no marker. This is no surprise, as Ada was left with four children to raise and no husband, so she probably didn't have enough money for a marker. We also found Ruby (Nash) Holmgaard's and her husband's.

Then we headed to Pincher Creek. We looked for a Mary (Nash_) Miller- No luck. We did find a Mary Miller, but the date of death was 1946....so not the one we were looking for. Apparently, these records were kept in the churches back then, and a couple of them burned down, so their records were lost. The ladies in both town offices were most helpful and found my story interesting, especially when I told them that I was in contact with you in Wales. We stopped at the museum in Pincher Creek, but the curator was not there. He would have had access to the homesteading records, and it would have been interesting to see if Daniel did homestead there.

Saturday morning we went to Hillspring to see if we could find anything in the cemetery there. The main cemetery was too new. It only went back to the 1940's. We found the pioneer cemetery, but it only went back to 1908 - still not old enough to see if that is where Mary (Nash) Miller was buried. Most of the offices were closed, but we stopped in to the general store and asked if anyone knew if there was another cemetery around. the fellow there said that he thought that there were several very small ones on different ranches in the area, but he didn't know just where. Anyway, I hope that you enjoy the pictures that I took. They are taken from just south of Pincher Creek. a bit east of Hill Spring.
