This young sailor has been tentatively identifed as William Stanley Nash,the son of Samuel Nash & Anna Gaffey Nash, born in 1897, William died September 28, 1929 and is buried at Nokomis, Illinois. That is who George Wayne Nash Jones thought that it was all along. The reason I believe that he is right is because of the next picture;
![]() George Wayne Nash Jones writes that on the back of this picture is written, "my husband and bill all these post cards were made the day before bill left 1 year ago April 2 " If you check out the picture of Samuel Nash with his family, you will see that the house in that picture is the same as the house in this picture...and although it seems too good to be true, this photograph may actually have been taken on the same day as the one of Samuel with all of his children. Until we learn anything further about William Stanley Nash (in fact it was this young man that Charlotte mentions in her letter to George; "Our Sams son Bill, was here in summer.") There is some question about the nature of his death...according to George Wayne Nash Jones, William Stanley might have been murdered abroad. So far we have no other information about this young man than what you see here. Except for the fact that the young man standing with William Stanley Nash is probably Charlotte Nash Swarbrick's husband, James. Look at the photo of Charlotte with her husband and son and you will see what I mean. |
