Letter to Wayne's mother, Mary
Written by Unknown Nash family member

I titled this page as "Letter to Wayne's mother, Mary, written by an Unknown Nash family member"...but that isn't entirely true. Wayne and Ad thought that possibly the letter was written by Uncle Henry/Harry Nash's wife, if he had one. But after typing out the letter, I realize that it must have been written by Mary's uncle. What throws you off is the hand writing...because it is such nice handwriting you automatically think it is a woman's. And there is no Aunt Emily in the lineup of kids that Jeremiah and Charlotte Miles Nash had. So, I went to the census reports and found in the 1930 census for Washington state, Bellingham City...Henry Nash and his wife, Emily. The census records that Henry was 55 years old in 1930 which places his birth year as 1875...just a couple of years off. That he was born in England as were his parents. His age at his first marriage was 42....I actually think that Henry/Harry Nash wrote this letter. The other reason I believe that is because of the way he uses the English expression of "is" instead of "his" when referring to his brother. I did not type it that way in my reproduction because it kept throwing me off and I would be here another 2 weeks doing this.

And while it seemed very nice that Aunt Emily...who would have to be a sister-in-law would have loved to have seen George's face one more time and who knew him well enough that he had told her that his chest caused his sickness, it is more likely it would be his own brother who would express those sentiments. Aside from that, none of the brothers had a wife named Emily.

And now that we live in a world where we aren't even supposed to say, "Merry Christmas," you might notice that this letter makes some politically incorrect references to the Germans who we were fighting against in World War II. The references to the Germans are more in keeping with what a man might say as opposed to a woman...at least I thought so...and finally, he mentions his asthma which was a chronic problem for his brother, Daniel Nash, and was at least a partial cause for Daniel's death.

So, I think finally that we have sort of solved the problem of finding Henry/Harry Nash...thanks once again to Wayne and Ad who sent this letter. I am welcome to any other suggestions and I will add a page with the census on it so you all can have a look.

Jan. 24th 1945

Dear Mary and all the family I received your most kind & welcome letter on Jan 5th 1945. And was very much pleased to here from you all. Mary I did not receive that letter you said you wrote to me shortly after your Father passed away. Maby those dirty Huns sunk the shipp it was on. I received a letter from your Brother Ronald and he told me all about your Father and the funeral - so I answered his letter right away and told him to write me anytime. But I haven't heard from him since. I hope he will come home to you all and in the very best of health. Mary I think your dad passed away with a heart attack he always told me it was his chest that caused his sickness. When our heart stops pumping we don't have time to speak to any of our loved ones before we are gone to our last resting place. I would have liked very much to have the pleasure to looked on George's face once more before he passed. Mary if that awful war had not been on. It_________________Intention to come back and see you all 3 ________ago. But I was afraid of those Dirty Huns._____________the ship I may be on. Russia is _______________getting what they asked for. Mary I hope you are getting a nice whinter. We are having a lovely Whinter over here. Mary I am pleased to say I am much better then I was a year ago. I came very near passing away 3 weeks before George did. My asthma is bothering me some yet. But not so bad as it used to be a year ago. Mary I think it was very nice of you to take your mother in to live with your family. It would have been very lonesome for her to live all by her self. Emily had a very bad cold it lasted about six weeks am plesed to say she is feeling much better now. Mary I don't know ware your cousin Charlotte Nash may be living now I only got one letter from her right after he Father passed away. She was living in Nokomis Illinois then. I guess Avril will be getting quite a large girl by this time. I think it was nice of you to name your baby boy after his Grandfather. Well I don't think of much more to tell you this time so will close with fondest love to you all.
From your Loving Uncle and Aunt Emily Nash
Kisses for all your children.
