Nicholas Wilmott wrote the Nash_fod @Yahoo.com that he was a great-great grandson of George Nash (born West Dean c. 1828 - 1898, father's name believed to be Richard). He has copies of most of the relevant census pages (1861 -1891) but he remained puzzled as to how George fits in with the other local Nash families...so Matt helped him out...and me too! Here is Matt's reply to Nicholas:

Greetings, Nicholas!

Welcome to the new Nash Family Meeting place.

Although I have not conducted primary research on this branch myself, according to research done by Moira Gilheather and others, it appears that your George was the son of the older Richard (born abt. 1778), who was brother or cousin of my John Nash (born abt. 1775). It appears that George may have been born about 1819-1821 and was still living in 1891. See Moira's findings on an earlier post here, or go to Toni's website and see the updated family tree at nashfamilytreeupdated3706.html"

This George Nash married Sarah Dew. If you surf Toni's site, you'll notice that Toni has recently received several other contacts from members of this Nash line (whom I'm calling the "Dew Nashes" for convenience). See the following pages: - http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/lynnash911/nashandrewprice.html - http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/lynnash911/nashjamesdewobit.html - Plus guestbook entry #26 by Stuart Davis

Hopefully Stuart Davis and Andrew Price will join this group! Thanks for submitting the photo of James Dew Nash at http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/lynnash911/nashjamesdew.html.

Incidentally, I have been corresponding with Bill Nash in Australia, who is descended from the same Richard Nash via his son James Nash (the brother of your George Nash). Bill grew up in the Forest of Dean. In a recent message, he noted, "Ref William Dew Nash Drybrook Lodge Farm - Drybrook farm rings a bell I must check that up, as I am sure I remember some relatives who ran that farm..."

Hopefully, Bill too will join this new group soon and you can compare notes!

Best wishes,

--Matt Nash
